Please refer to the TVCS Dress Code Policy.pdf for detailed information prior to shopping.

The dress code policy of The Village Charter School has been designed to support our schools vision and mission to provide a safe, supportive, loving, learning environment for all of our students. To provide this environment, a unified dress code achieves the following:

  1. Students look professional as they wear clothing that fits appropriately and is clean.
  2. Students can learn without the fear of being teased, bullied, or harassed for their clothing choices.
  3. Conflict stemming from socio-economic status is reduced.
  4. The pressure to wear certain styles or name brands is eliminated.
  5. There is a greater sense of school identity and belonging to the school community.
  6. Overall behavioral issues are decreased.

Dress Code FAQ

If you have a dress code related question that is not answered below, please feel free to email us at info@thevillagecharterschool.org

Q.Do blue jeans classify as navy blue pants in the dress code?

A: Blue jeans are not approved in our dress code.  The fabric needs to be more of a twill which is typical a standard uniform type pant.  When you start your school shopping you will see that many children's clothing stores now carry uniform wear which includes navy blue, straight legged pants (which essentially are the navy blue version of typical "khaki pants"). That type of pant, is what we are expecting to see our students wearing this fall.

Q; I did not see a code for backpacks. I'm assuming those would fall into the category of accessories and outerwear?

A: You are correct that backpacks are included as accessories and will need to abide by the same guidelines.

Q:  I was wondering if the dress code includes khaki or blue (uniform style) dresses? There are a few dresses in the uniform section that are the right colors but I didn't see dresses listed at all on the dress code.

A: Dresses are okay as long as the length fits the same standard for skirts.

Q: Are girls allowed to wear poplin shirts as long as they have a collar?

A: As for the poplin shirt, unfortunately, polo shirts are the only type of shirt allowed in our dress code.

Q:  Can boys wear khaki or navy blue cargo-style pants (with the pockets on the sides). The pants would, of course, be the right size, fit them correctly, have no logos and be in good condition.

A: Cargo pants can be worn.

Q:  How do we go about ordering a polo shirts with the school logo on it?

A: Bulk orders are placed thoughout the year.  Order forms are available at registration and sent home with students.  For information about upcoming orders, please email the office.
