Fundraising

Fundraising is a vital part of our programs - more so than other public schools. Our elective program is 100% dependent upon fundraising efforts.  Additionally, our school building will require a large capital campaign in order  enable us to purchase our own facility.  We thank you for helping with this effort - it really does "take a Village!"

At TVCS, fundraising is overseen by the Board. If you would like to submit a fundraiser, it must first be submitted to our Board Fundraising Committee.  Please click here to download an application.  Please submit completed applications to: board@thevillagecharterschool.org, attn: Fundraising.

The following are some talking points you can use when you approach businesses or people you know to ask for monetary or physical items to be donated.

  • We are a non-profit organization and have an EIN# or TID# should they want it for tax purposes including sales tax exemptions and tax write offs for donations.
  • We are a free public school located in Boise that does not charge tuition
  • The Village Charter School focuses on Leadership and offers innovative programs such as our elective program that at 100% dependent on donations.
  • We are funded differently than other public schools as we do not receive property tax money for a facility and rely on fundraising and donations to operate many of our programs.
  •  We also rely heavily on fundraising and are holding a capital campaign in order to raise funds for a down payment and to purchase a permanent building.
  • Our students don't sell candy, wrapping paper, discount cards etc.- we as parents and community members do that.
  • We serve a diverse population and are committed to reaching out to all families regardless of income levels or scholastic achievement.  We strive to have a "real world" population mix and love the diversity we have at our school.
  • We believe that everyone is a member of our village - parents, teachers, administrator, board & community members are all working together to support our students to be successful.
  • We beilieve that every child is a leader in their own way and we want to give them opportunities to cultivate and nuture their unique interests and abilities.
  • We want businesses and community members to know that we are passionate about providing a quality education for kids in Boise and that their donation -no matter how big or small, is greatly appreciated.
  • In addition to monetary donations we are looking for in kind donations, as well as donations of durable goods (for example a large van or two) or even land for a school.

Here are some additional tips:

1. Keep it short, and practice with a sample script before you ask. (Here is a SAMPLE SCRIPT you may want to use)

2. Go in with a specific request for something rather than just a "we need your help".

3. Prepare a 2-3 sentence statement that sums up your enthusiasm for The Village Charter School and the value it has in the community.

4. Keep the talking points on this page on hand so you can help educate others about charter schools and be able to answer questions that may come up.

5. If they ask a question that you don't know the answer to, let them know that you don't know the answer but that you will find out and call them back. Then follow through.

6. Say Thank You-  even if they turn you down, remember to thank them for the opportunity and for listening to you.

7. Don't give up! Remember that even if they say no, you have helped our school out just by spreading the word about the school and giving more and more people the opportunity to be involved in our community.

Hopefully by working together we can make the programs at The Village Charter School that much better and be able to purchase our own building some day (soon).  If you have items to donate or collect items from others, Sheri Groelund our Office Manager can write receipts for any donations.  Our business manager or office manager can also send out a formal letter on letterhead with our EIN # on it for any larger donations from corporations. Thank you for helping with the "Ask"!
